Clubhouse 274
The school campus offers you and your family more than just a traditional school experience.
Clubhouse 274 is the first Computer Clubhouse in New Zealand. Clubhouse 274 is one of over 100 clubhouses world-wide in the Intel Clubhouse network. The purpose built, state-of-the-art, Clubhouse was opened in 2008. The concept is based in the Boston Museum of Science and is an after-school drop in facility where members choose to come and work on projects that interest them. It provides our young people with top quality computer and music access. During the day the students at Clover Park Middle School and Te Whanau o Tupuranga are able to use these facilities and significant numbers of students enjoy being part of the Clubhouse activities from 3 pm – 7 pm each night.
The Computer Clubhouse provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment where young people from under-served communities work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.
As well as having access to state of the art technology and programmes, the Clubhouse also uses volunteers as mentors to provide help and support. Members have access to a world wide community of Clubhouse Members and staff to share and publish their work in a secure and supportive online village. They also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and participate in a biennial Teen Summit with members from the world wide clubhouse community in Boston, USA.
I have just greeted you according to my Maori custom, with a traditional call that acknowledged the significance of this World Teen Summit, paid respect to all of our ancestors who have gone before us, and greeted everyone assembled here today.
