To the Parents and Community of Te Whanau o Tupuranga
These are the findings of the Education Review Office’s latest report on Te Whanau o Tupuranga.
Students display a strong sense of belonging and responsibility to Te Whanau o Tupuranga. They have opportunities to learn about and fulfil their respective roles within Te Whanau o Tupuranga as tuakana and teina, as peers and as students. Teachers are encouraged to take responsibility for getting to know students and how they can best support the needs and interests of their students. The board, whanau and staff value kapa haka as an authentic learning context where students can demonstrate their pride as Maori and strengthen their relationships with peers and staff.
There is strong leadership across different levels within Te Whanau o Tupuranga that provides a strong foundation to sustain progress and future developments. The principal is dedicated to fulfilling her responsibilities as the professional leader and is ably supported by a team of pouhiwa, or associate principals, who demonstrate a personal commitment to the philosophy of the school. There are long-serving whanau and community members on the board of trustees who share their skills, experience and leadership qualities for the benefit of students in the school.
The philosophy of the school is clearly reflected in the strategic documents developed in consultation with the school and wider communities. There is a firm commitment to excellence and providing students with opportunities to learn as Maori and to affirm their identity as Maori. The board and staff have continued to critically analyse research and shared experiences from within New Zealand and internationally to guide the ongoing development of their school.
Students are well supported to develop skills in ICT. The strategic development of technology in Te Wh?nau o Tupuranga to support and enhance student learning is comprehensive. Each student in Te Whanau o Tupuranga will be provided with a laptop and wireless internet access from within a defined radius in Otara. This has been the result of relationships and networks developed with local and regional businesses and organisations. Students also have access to an onsite local computer clubhouse that provides opportunities for students to use a range of technology and software including graphic design, music and video editing.

To the Parents and Community of Clover Park Middle School
These are the findings of the Education Review Office’s latest report on Clover Park Middle School.
Clover Park Middle School provides an effective multicultural learning environment for students from Year 7 to 10 who live in the Otara community of Manukau City. The school’s operation is underpinned by its philosophy of providing a relevant curriculum that enables students to function confidently in their own culture and language as well as in the wider multi-ethnic community. The majority of students have family connections with the Pacific nations of Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. Parent involvement and community ownership are significant and are an integral feature of the way in which the school functions.
Students are confident, articulate and respectful. They are secure in their different cultural identities and have a strong affinity with the school and their wh?nau area. Students have well developed interpersonal relationships with their teachers and peers. Younger and older students relate well to each other. They are keen participants in school activities based on culturally appropriate practices and they have opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills as they progress through school.
Students have opportunities to participate in global learning through membership of an international Computer Clubhouse. This unique venture, introduced in 2005, is the only one of its type in New Zealand and provides students with on-line access to digital resources in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Boston Museum of Science.
