2010: Our Board member, Matua Sam Chapman, has been named as the “Local Hero of the Year” in the inaugural New Zealander of the Year Awards. Sam, his wife Thelma, and their whanau work tirelessly in support of our community.  Sam is a staunch advocate and supporter of our schools and the first chairperson of our Computer Clubhouse Trust. Congratulations Sam!

Our principal, Ann Milne, was awarded the Auckland Savings Bank/Auckland Primary Principals’ Travelling Fellowship in 2009. This award enabled her to study and share what we do with universities and schools in the USA and Canada. Ann has also been awarded prestigious research awards and scholarships in 2007 and 2008.

Three of our teachers completed Masters’ Degrees in Educational Leadership in 2009. We now have 9 staff with Masters’ Degrees and three more will complete this study in 2010. The majority of our staff are bilingual in a range of languages and are advocates for bilingual education.

COMMUNITY

TSUNAMI SUPPORT
Senior Tupuranga students successfully rallied together both schools and the community to raise funds to buy sports equipment for Ulutogia Primary School, which was devastated by the tsunami in Samoa. With a fantastic fundraising concert, sponsorship from corporate friends of the school and a range of other activities students raised almost $3,000.00. Sports equipment will be purchased and shipped early in 2010.
